  1. My spouse pays child support for a child of a previous relationship. How does that affect us if we have a child of our own?
  • Your spouse has an obligation to support his prior children, but the court has the discretion to give your spouse a maximum credit of $50 for each child your spouse has with you when the court makes a child support order for his prior children, thereby reducing the amount of child support he has to pay.

    However, the court does not always grant the credit.
